“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2).”

My wife and kids came down the escalator after at least 24 hours of travel.  They were several hours late, it was midnight, their luggage was missing and everyone was exhausted. But I didn’t care. They were here to stay!

My wife had come to the United States not knowing what to expect. We had fought a protracted battled to confirm her legal immigration status, and after several years and great expense we still hadn’t seen any fruit.

She was detained at their port of entry and waited as an immigration official reviewed her case.  After a while the man came back and said to my wife,”This is your lucky day.”  Her legal immigration status was confirmed and it was stamped in her passport. 

I am wondering if this fellow was an angel.  After all, the Scriptures tell us to be hospitable to strangers because you never know if you are dealing with one of His heralds. In a reversal of this command, he certainly was hospitable to my wife. And he fulfilled one of the roles of an angel, proclaiming to her good news. 

I told my children in the car that they should name one of our grandchildren after this man, or at least the family dog, if we ever get one.  This custom’s agent was definitely God’s messenger to us, telling us to be patient and watch God work.
